Advocacy Meeting
October 4, 2016 6:00 – 8:30 p.m.

Welcome and Introductions (Kevin Loomis)
MCAS/Stowe Trail update – (Ben Stone/Kevin Loomis)
Kevin Loomis reported progress continues on Stowe Trail access. Plan is to work with
Marines to plan logistics for riders to apply for permits to allow access onto the allowable
Trails that will connect Sycamore Goodan Ranch. SDMBA is in communications with
Marines about alignments and connections. Communications also ongoing with developers in the area regarding alignments and connections. Nothing is legal in East Elliott; Don’t ride 3 Barrels.
Mike Jennings reported that Marines are surveying the boundary to begin to post 100’s
of signs to mark the boundary.
STC Bill Human-Powered Travel in Wilderness Areas Act, S.3205 (Ben/Kevin)
Now is the time to write letters to support this bill. Visit
www.sustainabletrailscoalition.com to letter templates and addresses of representatives.
Black Mountain New Trail Building (Matt)
Matt reported that Ranger Christensen has walked the proposed Black Widow alignment
Waiting for City of SD to sign off on plan. A lot of rebuild to be done with armored turns.
Turfstone is very heavy so transport logistics need to be figured out. Eastridge is
another alignment that needs to be completed. Will be a designated 2 way trail. About half a mile total from the top. Storage container possibly to store tools and supplies to facilitate project. Rehab parts of Road Runner and eventually connect with neighborhood below. SDMBA reps looking forward to meeting new City of SD Parks and Rec Director.
Snake Trail – Chula Vista (Susie/Jose)
Unauthorized wooden elements being removed by the city. Access for bikes still ok.
SDMBA will contact city and see if volunteers can start to rehab the trail once the
Removal process is complete. Need to show the City that trails are a real need for the
Community and bikers are willing to help care for trails.

Nov. 5 Del Mar Mesa Trail Work Day in honor of Brian M. Smith
Community event; mostly trimming; maybe some dirt work depending on
conditions.
