Booking a mountain bike rental with REI is easily done online at https://sandiego.rentals.rei.
REI Members can rent full suspensions for $101 for the first night and $60 for each additional night. Because we rent nightly, not hourly, you may be able to work in two days of riding for just $101. Hardtails are $50 for the first night, and $40 for each additional night.
We recommend booking a reservation a week in advance on the online platform, but we rent same-day too. Please call REI for same-day availability and reservations.

North of the Border
Start the ride from the front door of the "legendary" North of the Border Bike Shop. Ride a Norco Torrent 27.5 plus mountain bike and explore Los Peñasquitos Canyon, an easy-to-navigate, coastal sage scrub ecosystem. There are easy fire roads or technical singletrack, so you can pick your poison. Discover a waterfall, a duck pond and diverse wildlife which can include redtail hawks, deer, coyotes, roadrunners and if you are lucky a bobcat. Venture out to the "Tunnels" a fully encapsulated trail system covered with the indigenous California Manzanita trees. Pedal past the remains of an 1848 Adobe home and also visit the Los Penasquitos Ranch House built in 1823.
Helmets, pedals, water and snacks are available.
Rentals are available during shop hours only.
