From Ben Stone:

We need rain – trail work season was October-April and is now usually December-March. First trail work day last season was early December, last day was April 9th
Trail maintenance or corridor clearing would be an option – there are erosion issues especially at Black Mountain.
Minette could use help at Valley Center or working with Cuyamaca/Rancho State Park
Estimated number of people coming out? Richard Hunt: 25-50 and generally their first trail work experience
1.5 miles to be built out in Julian with SDRP foundation; existing projects at Black Mountain

Strategic Plan –Susie (5 mins)
Kevin met with Lenore before his trip, they are setting the stage for questions to be sent to board members before the first meetings.
2nd of June and 7th of June are dates for first meeting at Lenore’s office – Nonprofit Management Solutions from 6-8:30 PM on both nights
Lenore had asked about institutional bylaws, we provided her with board bylaws and also other organizational documents.

Major Donor Event – update/Date – Susie (5 mins)
Long term calendar planning
Early November
Still considering Karl Strauss as a location
Susie has a list together for the donor event, has contact information for members to invite specifically. 75-80 people on the list now.
Some long-time donors and some new. She has been in contact with many of the newer donors to keep them updated on projects and current happenings.
Will there be a ride involved? Presentation/video?

Crow’s Nest – Minette (5 mins)
Minette sent out updated MOU and update from Steve Ford detailing how much work needs to be done
Valley Center Parks and Rec board meeting on Monday – Minette will be attending. At that meeting will be approval to open the gates and start working on the park again. Tentative work dates are June 25 and 26.
Need man hours more than funds to complete project
Hundreds of volunteer hours needed – at least 25 (but preferably closer to 50) volunteers would need to come for a few service weekends to get the park open by August
Guidelines from the bike park for things to document in order to satisfy liability will need to be completed
Maintenance will be done by “park committee” volunteers
Valley Center provides certificate of insurance for the park committee

SDMBA MTB Ranger Bike Training – update (Minette)
This is in the hands of Jason Liebrecht and Kevin Hubbel, coordinating dates to work out this ranger training
They will let us know how many people the county has and let us know if there is any available space

Requests for Continuance on any current Agenda items

Discussion Agenda (Indicate action items)

Item 1.  Arch Ride Debrief (6/13) agenda items – (Skii) 5 mins

We have not yet received bill from bicycle coalition. Skii will follow up with Andy H.
It would be a great idea to get our own stands.
Sold 35-40 jerseys which are in production
All checks have been cut to pay for food trucks, etc. except for bike valet
Debriefing on June 13th at 6 PM – at Karl Strauss OR to be done at Ballast Point because it is a quieter venue – In the meeting room. Minette to contact Ballast Point to book meeting room.

Item 2.  Financial Development Plan/Spring Appeal (Susie) 5 mins.

Conversations with Lenore and Nonprofit Management Solutions – working on development plan for the next year-18 months
Long range planning for driving membership, special events, campaigns for fundraising.
Simple spring appeal now. This would be an email rather than a postcard.
Kristina or Brian to help create a note, crossing over into social media.
Membership renews. IMBA has a spring and fall campaign and does 2 pushes for donations per year. We would plan one spring one and one at the end of the year.
We are #2 in the country now for membership!
New double sided membership forms that include family members info.
There are a few more weeks of IMBA’s spring membership left.
16 new members at events
MTB of Santa Cruz selling $5 tickets, whoever wins the drawing can pick any Santa Cruz bike. Is it better to do $5 for a drawing or as a membership drive incentive?
Item 3.  Trail mapping needs discussion(Susie) 5 mins

Robert, Susie, and Matt have been discussing trail mapping
Most people request trail maps at events
Many websites are outdated but MTB Project and Trailforks are new.
MTB Project – backed by IMBA and REI
Trailforks (Brian) – great to use out in the field and easy to use online
Susie thinks we can use both. Robert has a group of people together to see what is inventoried on those platform and to get legal routes on the ground.
On Trailforks, if an unauthorized trail is added it can be removed.
To get every legal trail inventoried on those platforms would not be too hard
People asking: where can I ride? We need to think about those people and be a resource for them to come to. We need something we can physically hand to people that would give them some direction.
A small booklet on quality paper could be produced, something that costs a few $. Possibly to include the top 10 rides in the county?
New edition of MTB San Diego? Last edition was 1988 or 1990
Think about this to get something printed. Bring up in advocacy to record GPX files (can be done through Garmin or KML files).

Item 4.  World Summit Registration/Attendees (Susie) 5 mins.

Dates are November 10-12, we missed early bird registration. From now til end of September it is $395.
Susie is possibly free, and we have one more free registration that we won
Pick a reasonable number of people to go – then share the cost communally
3-4 board members the last year and rented a place, car, etc.
This year is in Arkansas.
Ben, Jeff (possibly), Jose, Kevin, Susie to attend
Participants that go to come back and debrief/write up
Show that we are moving in a positive direction, network with other chapters and IMBA members. The workshops will also be beneficial to new board members like Jose and Jeff.
How much was approved per person in 2014? About $2500 total
Paying for up to 4 members
Ben Stone makes a motion to approve $395 for maximum 4 board members to go plus additional funding for the budget.
$3000 cap on this budget – expenses for 2016. Jason Showalter seconds. This is unanimously approved.
This to come out of Tour de Fat funds that have not been spent yet.

Item 5.   Long Range Calendar for remainder of 2016 (Susie) 10 mins

Poster calendar that Susie made that details the end of the summer/fall events
Try to do the Laguna event?
Keep the discussion open on this, meeting and ride on the 10th with new Laguna Ranger.
Group spot campout, social event, ride, etc.
Minette and Robert had talked to some business owners. Trying to loop the business owners in might be tricky, though it might be possible to do an event at a business in the afternoon
Event to be discussed at a later date

Item 6.   Grant updates: REI 2015/2016, REI 16-17, NEEF, SDF, Patagonia -update: (Susie) 5 mins

REI $15,000 – we got it! for Black Mountain etc. for 2016/17
Matt working on PQ tool stand at Del Mar Mesa
One more tool stand will go in at Black Mountain and one at Mission Trails
Patagonia invited us to apply for a grant for Bike to Work week. Every mile their employees ride we get $.
Bigger Patagonia one pending – to supplement to Black Mountain.
Conserves Heroes – nominated Minette for. Highly competitive and waiting to hear back!
San Diego Foundation Grant – submitted by Eric of Canyonlands and we worked on it together with UrbanCorps. We are written in for $5k for materials, volunteer support, funds for Susie. In return, we will partner with Canyonlands for 4 workdays on Chollas Creek Canyon trail.
It is an urban trail, inner city project that benefits many people and commuters. Includes a very detailed budget with partners.

Item 7.  McCain Valley/Chaparral Land Conservancy (Ben) 5 mins

Nothing to add currently

Item 8.  Development update Del Mar Mesa Position (Ben ) 5 mins

Nothing to add currently

Item 9.  Discussion on possible Fall Event at Laguna (Minette/Robert) 5 mins

See above, discussed in Long Range Calendar

Item 10. Bike Park Bonita proposal (Susie) 5 mins.

Susie met at the property to look at it with Robert Kay. It is adjacent to a trail system with no neighbors.
June 1st meeting with the Sweetwater Valley committee, Susie will go to this meeting to help explain what a bike park is and what it would involve.
We will ask Robert K. to make a more general document to present not including the name of SDMBA in the proposal.

Item 11. Special Announcement (Jason) 10 minutes

Email from County Parks and Rec: green light for a strategy to develop Flinn Springs for a bike park
Jason met yesterday with Matt Bowen, Allie at the county.
SDMBA involvement
Concerned because it is close to large pavilion, but mapped lines could be moved
Concerned about the proximity of the bike park being close to a venue often used for weddings
How can we move ahead with this?
Jay will come back and meet again with the County after July 4th (Monday) and will present a feasibility study because we will encounter push back and need to be able to list why we are choosing Flinn Springs.
Jay will also present a more complete concept design of the area. This will all be presented and then to be decided on within a week or presentation. Then, have a community meeting informing neighbors of what is going on.
Jason will need volunteers
At this point, Jason does not need anything from SDMBA
After all the work that has been put in, a bike park is well deserved.

Item 12.  eBike Discussion (Susie) 5 mins

Different chapters are discussing how to deal with eBikes, most are stating that they need to stay on trails authorized for motorized transport
There should be signage for trails to notify eBikes of trails that can and cannot be ridden
Land Managers will ultimately make the decision; EBike retailers need to do a better job at educating consumers as most have no idea about these rules.

Item 13.  Member Meet and Greet 6/22 Hess Brewing (Susie) 3 mins

22nd of June at Hess Brewery – new member social and ride.
Run videos on screen, will get 10% of proceeds.

Item 14. Backcountry Land Trust – vote for approval for $500

John from Backcountry Land Trust – came to advocacy meeting
Do we have $500 to help with signage in their area? In conjunction with organized trail work events within the community.
Ben wants to budget $500. This group does community events and does not have signage budgeted.
A trail system needs to be there in order to have signage.
They purchased a ranch south of the Hauser Wilderness.
They are having an internal argument about keeping bikes out of the area.
Reaching out and budgeting $500 to help them would be a great way to reach out and create a better relationship with this group.
Could we do a partnership on signage with the SD trail alliance?
Make a motion that SDMBA budgets $500 for future projects on Wrights Field in conjunction with the Backcountry Land trust.
Ben makes motion, Jason approves, unanimously approved.
